Verizon Update
8/2/03
A. Union Decides to Strike Although we have consistently focused on Verizon's grievances towards consumers, we decided to highlight the impending worker's strike that may begin at early as this evening. Here is a company that has grown to be worth over $100 billion dollars. Executives collectively took over $395 million dollars in bonuses. So how does Verizon show it's gratitude to it's work force? By leaving them jobless, of course. Over 79,200 workers are poised to leave their positions in an effort to reign in some of the unreasonable demands that are consistently made. Fortunately the workers are in a union and can impact the company with their numbers. Should they go ahead with this move, it will affect service on a large scale. Although Verizon is attempting to bring in last minute replacements, they have already asked customers to expect problems.
B. Whistleblower on Audits Verizonpathetic in conjunction with other consumer advocacy groups has been bringing to light audits of VZ that could ultimately be the end of the phone giant. Forbes magazine and the Washington Post have both printed articles as a result of our efforts, however without further confirmation, they felt that it was not yet time to make it front page material. Recently, a former employee of the Bells has stepped forward to corroborate this information which others have tried their utmost to bury. Although "Mr Smith" is unwilling to go further than an anonymous interview at this point, his specific and detailed description of the deception are fascinating. You may view a transcript of the article here: http://www.teletruth.org/TeletruthAuditExclusive.html
It is our hope that his actions will motivate others to to come forward as well. C. Another Partner in the War A former Verizon manager who has as much contempt for the company as possible has started his own website: http://www.verizonscrewedme.8m.net If some of you would like to visibly display your contempt for Verizon, you can actually purchase a rather comical iron-on for your shirts. This has been a hot item amongst union workers these days.
