UPDATE 1/21/01
Before getting to the general information, two questions have consistently arisen recently: How do I join the lawsuit, and how do I register for updated information? Because the most recent suit that was filed in Washington D.C. was filed in Federal Court, the suit will automatically encompass all subscribers to Verizon service. Therefore, just by virtue of being a customer you will be included without having to do anything. As for registering, click here and it will bring you into the forum. There you will see a small link at the top right corner that says "register". The rest should be fairly explanatory.
A. New York Law suit
Regarding the previously mentioned lawsuit in the state of
New York, there was a question as to whether this suit would deal solely
with New York customers or the entire country. Fortunately, it looks
as though the action will encompass customers across the nation.
Although this is a large step forward, actions such as these require a
substantial amount of time to complete. Often it will likely become
a bit of a waiting game as these procedures continue. As always I
will keep you apprised of any developments.
B. On-line Petition
An interesting petition has arisen regarding many of the
complications that seem to occur with PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over
Ethernet). As many of you know, this has been the crux of many
issues for VZ customers. This petition is calling for the exodus of
this system in favor of using a uniform system of dynamic IP's. It
is fully explained at http://www.petitiononline.com/pppoe/petition.html
and it is certainly worth the 30 seconds to electronically show your
support.
C. New Law Suit
Yet another class action has been filed against Verizon,
this time by attorneys in the Superior Court of the District of
Columbia. For those of you who have not seen the article yet, you
can read it here http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20010117/tc/verizon_lawsuit_1.html
